Design Merchandiser

We are seeking a highly creative and detail-oriented Design Merchandiser with a strong foundation in fashion and textiles, and a keen eye for trend, quality, and commercial appeal. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between design and production, working closely with the creative and merchandising teams to ensure product integrity from concept to final delivery.

SALARY
R30 000 – 40 000 p/m

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with design, buying, and production teams to develop trend-forward and commercially viable product ranges.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of fabrics, fastenings, and fashion applications to contribute to product development and innovation.
  • Create and edit design assets using Adobe Photoshop (advanced proficiency) and Illustrator.
  • Maintain and update product information, line sheets, and range plans using Excel.
  • Handle Client meetings.
  • Manage and organize digital files and creative resources on Mac OS systems.
  • Ensure product quality and consistency through involvement in quality assurance and sample review processes.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to ensure timely product execution.
  • Support in the preparation of presentation boards, mood boards, and collection overviews for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and track development samples, materials, and approvals.
  • Use Outlook to manage communication, calendars, and scheduling across departments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Fashion Design, Textiles, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a similar design or merchandising role within the fashion industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, and embellishment techniques.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop and proficient in Illustrator.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Mac OS systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Passionate about fashion and aware of emerging trends and market demands.
