To ensure strong and visible presence within the wine market by defending and growing its customer base through consistent, on-the-ground engagement. This role focuses on delivering regular service to all wine customers outside the Top 20 key accounts, ensuring no customer segment is neglected.
The Wine Sales Representative is responsible for actively visiting existing and potential wine industry customers, bottling facilities, and relevant industry stakeholders to secure new business opportunities, strengthen existing relationships, and recover lapsed or lost customers. Through proactive market coverage and relationship management, the role supports sustainable growth and long-term brand positioning within the wine sector.
Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development
•Build and manage customer relationships with regular service calls.
•Conduct regular client visits to increase visibility.
•Present product ranges, technical information, pricing, and new innovations.
•Identify, pursue, and secure new wine customers.
Customer Relationship Management
•Provide excellent customer service and respond promptly to enquiries or complaints.
•Track and maintain accurate customer visit records – present this weekly to the KAM.
Market Intelligence & Competitor Insights
•Gather on-site information relating to packaging trends, customer preferences, and competitor activity.
•Identify and report on the use of imported (competitor) bottles (products), including price benchmarking, lead times, and customer motivations.
•Provide monthly intelligence reports to management highlighting:
Industry developments and market movements.
•Recommend new product shapes, lightweight options, or enhancements based on customer feedback.
Technical Knowledge & Support
•Advise customers on bottle specifications, and technical considerations.
•Work with KAM to resolve product issues in terms of operations, logistics, and quality teams.
Qualifications:
•Matric/Grade 12.
•Sales or Wine related qualification will be advantageous.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
•Minimum 5 years’ experience in the South African wine industry OR in wine-related sales.
•Experience working at a winery, tasting room, cellar, distributor, or wine supplier.
•Strong knowledge of South African wine regions and wine farms.
•Proficiency in MS Office and customer call reporting.
Advantageous
•Existing network of contacts within the wine industry.
•Prior sales experience in glass packaging, closures, labels, or related industries.
•Technical understanding of bottling lines and packaging requirements.
